Less Thinking, More Doing

What's the first thing you think of when I mention:

Seth Godin

...soft-spoken, thoughtful marketer with funny glasses

Gary Vee

...brash marketing guy who started peddling wine with YouTube videos and talks about selling stuff online —->

Neil Patel

...nerdy online marketing teacher who's always wearing white

These marketing gurus have huge teams behind them but the truth is that their "brand" is really about them and their personality.

I think a lot of people get confused and overwhelmed when they hear about building their "brand". It's really not as difficult as you think.

Here are 9 tips on how to build your online brand:

#1 - Don't worry about 'cultivating your personal brand' - Just Be Yourself! People will either be attracted to you or repelled - you don't need those people who weren't into you anyway.

#2 - Pick a topic that relates to you and that you're passionate about and talk about it online regularly.

#3 - Be consistent - this might be the most important tip, just be consistent.

#4 - Include stories whenever possible - stories are one of the most powerful communication tactics ever created.

#5 - Have an opinion - it's okay to take a stand on things you feel strongly about. Remember YOU are ultimately your biggest differentiator. Note: you may want to avoid politics or religion, but I can't blame you if you feel strongly about it.

#6 - Content Strategy - document your process. No need to overthink it, just share what you're working on: how you got there, what results did you achieve, what you learned, what surprised you, what was harder than you thought, how it can help other people, etc.

#7 - Keep your content succinct and to the point, skip the fluff. Always focus on quality over quantity.

#8 - Don't sell - the surest way to turn people off is to promote yourself. Instead you can talk about how you help people in your job/the results you get. Trust me, don’t promote yourself.

#9 - Just go do it. Not every post will be a masterpiece and most people won't even notice, especially when you're getting started. But get started today. And you'll notice that your work will improve over time and people will start to notice you.

Ok, now go get started. Now. Did you read tip number 9? What are you waiting for?? 😁
