Are you using a lead magnet to generate leads?

Offering a lead magnet is a great way to generate leads. Companies have been successfully generating leads online for many years. However, the internet has become a more competitive place and in order to be successful you be innovative and thoughtful with what you are offering.

Below are proven tips to help your lead generation campaigns:

Tip #1 - Be super-focused on your ideal client. The more specific you can be, the more you will connect with your audience (this applies to all of your marketing 😉). You should know basic demographic information (location, age, gender, occupation) but also information like: what websites do they visit, what events do they attend, thought leaders, what keeps them up at night, pain points, what does success look like, etc. Dig deep to really get to know your ideal client.

Tip #2 - Understand the top questions that your audience has. Your ability to answer these questions (or sometimes confirm their assumptions) is the top reason people will be interested. If you miss on communicating directly to your target audience, your conversion rate will suffer. In addition, if you have the right targeting but your messaging is off-topic, your conversion rate will also decrease.

Tip #3 - Copywriting - You need a compelling headline on your lead page, as well as the ad or place from where people are seeing your post. Don’t underestimate the effectiveness of creative and powerful copy.

Tip #4 - If you’re not sure your topic is relevant or sought-after, utilize the internet for some competitive research:

Check Google Trends to see how often your keywords (the topic of your lead magnet) are searched.

Try typing your keywords into the Google search bar - see what Google autocompletes.

Answer The Public is another site where you can cross-check your keywords to refine your topic.

The last source I use for lead magnets is YouTube. YouTube is the 2nd most-popular search engine in the world and it is a huge source of informational and how-to videos. Enter your lead magnet keywords and see what results come up. Pay particular attention to videos with huge video view counts.

Mistakes To Avoid:

Too much content - People are usually looking for a quick answer to a specific question. Sometimes lead magnets like ebooks, free trainings and webinars have so much information packed into them that they actually seem like work to consume. Most people actually prefer bite-sized content.

Irrelevant - the lead magnet should provide a highly-specific answer or piece of information that is:

a) relevant to your ideal client and

b) a lead-in or sliver of the product that you sell

Bonus tip:

Thank you page - Once people download your lead magnet, they will usually be taken to a thank you page. Don’t miss this opportunity to communicate further! You can insert an upsell offer, sale offer, include a freebie or just continue to branding process by helping to get people to know, like & trust you.

This generic thank you page isn't doing anything. This is free real estate!!
